Good Morning Dear Reader, I hope you are enjoying this traditionally wet Bank Holiday. You’ll have to be gentle with me today, I’m feeling a little delicate*. I think it could be something to do with two cans of Caffreys on top of two glasses of wine with dinner. Mr Blogs’ friend Dave came over for an evening of intellectual discussion and witty repartee. OK, it was actually an alcohol fuelled session during which we rambled about subjects as diverse as Postman Pat vs Thomas the Tank Engine, Middle Eastern archaeology, Sky’s presentation of the Hogfather and Wayne Rooney’s foot. As you can see, we are fascinating and sophisticated folk, Oh well, maybe not.

Good news on the chicken front. Mr Blogs has agreed! Hurrah. Following Saturday’s post, Beki left a comment which included a link to a great organisation which rescue and rehome battery chickens. I pointed Mr Blogs in the direction of the site, explaining we could include a rescued chicken in our ‘flock’ and it won him over. I should have thought of something like this before because he has always had a soft spot for furry and feathery critters in distress. Now, I need to sort out a hen home, I have seen various designs for sale, but I think I will ask Mr Blogs Senior to construct something, he is very handy that way, and always looking for a new project.

During our evening of intellectual discussion and witty repartee, we were stunned into silence by a remark made on a tv chat show type thing. I’m not sure what the programme was called, but the featured guest spoke up in favour of Adam Hart Davis, who it seems, is widely regarded as one of televisions most annoying presenters. This is totally unfair. AHD is fab and groovy, a Johnny Ball for grown ups. He displays such enthusiasm for any subject he covers, it is impossible not to get swept up and carried along. I have a feeling the anti-AHD brigade are fans of the ultra trendy Vernon Kay style of presenting. However, in my opinion, VK is an annoying twerp with an implausible (and scary) number of teeth.

* It is safe to say, I have developed a new found respect for Earnest Hemingway.

  1. I love Adam Hart-Dabis, too. Wonderful man. Should be on MY television more often. :-)

  2. Hurrah!! I am so glad to hear Mr Blogs has realised some feathered additions to the Blogs family will be very worthwhile.

I look forward to the Chicken tales to come!

And I am in the pro-AHD group, I think he’s great and displays the enthusiasm that gets knocked out of so many teachers!

  3. Yes, he is great, I was really surprised to discover he wasn’t popular.

Beki, you are right, if there were more teachers displaying that level of enthusiasm, schools would be much more productive places. There are some at the moment (Number Three Son’s drama teacher is a good example, she managed to get him to take up thesping so she must be good ) but there should be more.
