Around this time of year I usually start to make a concerted effort to get the Christmas shopping done. Of course, it never quite works out like that, and most years I can be seen racing around on 23rd December buying pressies for people who couldn’t make their minds up about exactly what they wanted. This year, it seems, will be the same. I bought Number Two Sons main pressie today, but Sons Numbers One, Three, Four and Five don’t have a clue what they want. They have made several suggestions, then changed their minds, so I’m stuck in present buying limbo, champing at the bit, desperate to hit the high street and get the whole thing out of the way, but unable to do so, because no one knows what they want. AAARGH!
It must have been so much easier in the olden days when kids got an orange and a pair of socks and were jolly well grateful.
So get them an orange and a pair of socks each. Or an orange pair of socks each!
I normally have all my Christmas shopping finished by mid-November, but this has been an odd year, and very difficult in that respect. I’ll probably hit the shops and buy all my vouchers today!
I’m pretty much finished with Chrimbo this year. That’s very late for me too, I like a nice relaxed December.
I’ve always found girls are far harder to buy for than boys, especially when they’re between being little nippers and teenagers.
Happy shopping!
I’m always later for Christmas than I wanted to be. What’s the earliest I can put up my tree? Just so I don’t have to be decorating it late on Christmas Eve or something…
Steg: a pair of orange socks! LOL Now that’s a thought, it might teach them to be more decisive next year.
Asterisk: You can’t go wrong with gift vouchers – and if anyone complains, just remind them it is the thought that counts. Or at least that’s my excuse.
Pie: I have the opposite problem. I can choose pressies for women and small children, but when it comes to males over ten I haven’t a clue. Unfortunately, most of the gifts I buy are for males over ten.
Diddums: I see trees up from the beginning of December, but that’s a bit too early for me, I usually wait till about the 10th. There is a local family who decorate their whole house the day after Bonfire night, now that is extreme LOL And each year it gets more elaborate – I’m sure that pretty soon they will be getting complaints from the local airport.
I am always that last minute shopper rushing in and out of stores on Christmas Eve and then dashing back to decorate the tree.
If they can’t decide what they want, get them Chanel No. 5 bubble bath, scented candles and a footspa. Never give a present that you wouldn’t be pleased to receive yourself, that’s my motto.
CP: I’m glad to know I’m not the only one racing around town, sorting through the tat that is left on Xmas Eve LOL
“Never give a present that you wouldn’t be pleased to receive yourself, that’s my motto.”
That means my lot will be getting a pair of knee-length purple suede boots (tarty but I have to have them) a rather nice bracelet and some hair straighteners. Hmm, I wonder if they’d like that LOL
