AKA Is Sandra Bullock plotting to steal my freedom?

I posted earlier on Facebook and twitter about my email from Sandra Bullock informing me that I had won 700,000 euros. Just in case no one believes me, here it is -

What a generous woman she is! Other slebs appear on telethons, or release charidee singles. Sandra has gone further and is giving money away! What will be next? Will David Beckham offer to lend me Victoria as a replacement for my dodgy washing-line prop? Will Sean Bean wake me every morning with a cup of coffee and a snog? but only in the spirit of ‘making life better for the little people’, of course.

I wonder if Sandy (I feel I can call her that, she obviously likes me) is one of those wealth-spreading socialists I keep hearing about. Hmm! Maybe, her offer is not a good thing because, apparently, socialists are really evil and want to force people to have free healthcare. Shocking! I bet they wear velour and buy whole albums of lift (elevator) music too, the swines!

Oh, and for the humourly challenged, yes, I know it’s spam, duh!

A while ago I mentioned that Anna and I were planning a meet-up for bloggers in the Sheffield area. Well, we have finally got it organised, so if you are within travelling distance of Sheffield you’ll be most welcome to come along!

Where: University Arms, 197 Brooke Hill, Sheffield
When: Saturday, 15th November, 1.30pm
Find it on Facebook: Facebook

We deliberately chose the day and date to give people who have to work during the week, or whose evenings are already busy with childcare a chance to come along, so no excuses LOL Anyhoo, it’s going to be an informal event, but themed around blogging, so if you have questions you want to ask, or ideas to share, jot them down.

Just a quick message to let you know that I have decided to close my film blog and bring the posts over to this one. I don’t post on it as often as it deserves and really, the content there would work just as well here. Anyhow, I’ve imported the posts and I’m about to try to publish them. I’m not sure how that works, so my apologies if something apparently old suddenly appears in your reader. If it is the case that they will all appear as new posts, I will refrain from posting them all at once.

That’s all!

It’s been a week since I last posted – that wasn’t intentional, the last 7 days just got away from me and it was the weekend before I knew it. I’m afraid there isn’t going to be a real post now, I’m getting Number Five Son ready to go to visit my mum for the half-term holiday. So, instead (you know what’s coming don’t you?) here is a quiz I found at Lady Banana’s, from which you can find out just how British you are. I got a score of 90%, and accused of being a slobbering drunk, an allegation I strongly refute! I never slobber when drunk. I sing badly and fall asleep.

You Are 90% British

Are you British? Hell, you’re more of a Brit than the Queen is!

You’re truly the dog’s bollocks… and you know that’s not an insult.

So what if you’re a slobbering drunk obsessed with football?

At least you always remember your manners.

You are a Bette — “I must be strong”
Bettes are direct, self-reliant, self-confident, and protective.

How to Get Along with Me

  • * Stand up for yourself… and me.
  • * Be confident, strong, and direct.
  • * Don’t gossip about me or betray my trust.
  • * Be vulnerable and share your feelings. See and acknowledge my tender, vulnerable side.
  • * Give me space to be alone.
  • * Acknowledge the contributions I make, but don’t flatter me.
  • * I often speak in an assertive way. Don’t automatically assume it’s a personal attack.
  • * When I scream, curse, and stomp around, try to remember that’s just the way I am.

What I Like About Being a Bette

  • * being independent and self-reliant
  • * being able to take charge and meet challenges head on
  • * being courageous, straightforward, and honest
  • * getting all the enjoyment I can out of life
  • * supporting, empowering, and protecting those close to me
  • * upholding just causes

What’s Hard About Being a Bette

  • * overwhelming people with my bluntness; scaring them away when I don’t intend to
  • * being restless and impatient with others’ incompetence
  • * sticking my neck out for people and receiving no appreciation for it
  • * never forgetting injuries or injustices
  • * putting too much pressure on myself
  • * getting high blood pressure when people don’t obey the rules or when things don’t go right

Bettes as Children Often

  • * are independent; have an inner strength and a fighting spirit
  • * are sometimes loners
  • * seize control so they won’t be controlled
  • * figure out others’ weaknesses
  • * attack verbally or physically when provoked
  • * take charge in the family because they perceive themselves as the strongest, or grow up in difficult or abusive surroundings

Bettes as Parents

  • * are often loyal, caring, involved, and devoted
  • * are sometimes overprotective
  • * can be demanding, controlling, and rigid
