The pic above is a snapshot from the BBC news site and the link actually goes to this article about whether or not actors should 'put on' an accent appropriate to their character - but how does that read to you? Is this some novel new punishment? Is an English accent really so bad thoroughly evil people should be forced to adopt one?
It's the strangest thing I've seen since the whole Googe incident.
Updated to add: The article itself is worth a read!

I just love that with all the troubles in the world, this is something they think we need to worry about? Accents?
ReplyDeleteI know LOL I think it's better if they stick to their own in most cases because there's nothing worse than someone mangling an accent throughout a whole film.
ReplyDeleteI've always found Nazis speaking English with German accents a bit strange. Why would they speak any language with an accent? Suspending my disbelief is a little difficult sometimes, just as it is when people break into song in musicals. I've read two reviews of 'Valkyrie'; one said it's quite comical and that Tom Cruise looks like a pirate, the other lavished praise on Tom and the film. I'm inclined to believe the former. (achtung! ve haf vays of making you vatch this film!)
ReplyDeleteLiam: I have the same problem with musicals. Impromptu song and dance routines have ruined many good films.
ReplyDeleteI was so disappointed when I found out *he* was playing von Stauffenberg, it could have been such a wonderful film, and really the man deserved to be portrayed by someone who can actually act.
