This is the 500th post on this blog – not my 500th, two were written by a charming and talented guest blogger, but the other 498 are all my own work, a fact I feel strangely proud of. I admit, mine aren’t the most informative or enlightening posts, but still, there are a lot of them. Quantity counts for something, right?

I did consider writing a 500 themed post to mark the occasion, but it’s really not an interesting number*, or a review of past posts, but that meant a lot of faffing around and I’m not feeling well. So instead, I’d like to thank each and every one of you for reading. I do appreciate it, even if I don’t always make that clear. It still surprises me that anyone reads this blog, even more so that people take the time to leave comments; knowing that so many readers come back is very touching. I particularly appreciate those of you who stuck around for a significant percentage of those 498 posts, often becoming friends outside the blogosphere; I value your friendship, support and insight.

OK cheesy interlude over; I promise not to make a habit of it.

Will there be another 500? I hope so. Will this blog ever have a theme? Seems unlikely, if anything, it’s become more random over time. Luckily, I avoided it becoming a mom-blog**, I did worry it might go down that path for a while. Have I learnt anything from blogging? Yes. That there is an optimum length for posts, that people can be very strange*** and that widget addiction is a pernicious thing – avoid them people, they may be pretty but they will take over your blog.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend :-)

* Although, apparently the ancient kingdom of Essex was probably founded in the year 500, turning England into a heptarchy. Bet you’re glad I shared that. You can drop it into conversations at parties, people will be fascinated.
** Nothing against mom-blogs, I just don’t think it would have been ‘me’.
*** You’ve seen the stuff they search for. And I’m still bewildered by the bizarre dog hating, racist commenter who kept mentioning igloos.

Currently listening to: Car Button Cloth by The Lemonheads – on cd no less, very old school

I’ve just added a nifty little map to this blog. It gives a visual demonstration of the locations of visitors. If you fancy one yourself, just visit this site: http://clustrmaps.com/index.htm

I’ve just downloaded a really good desktop blogging device called w.bloggar. If you have seen this before, sorry to be boring. Anyway, it’s pretty nifty, and has more features than the Blogger button I have in my Mozilla browser. You can find it at http://wbloggar.com/

You can use it to update multiple blogs, import text files, add pics, edit html and so on. Apart from providing a great way to update your blog, it also allows you to twiddle with the template.
